Peter Rabbit

Look at these little fluffy arms.. so stumpy and cute!
As it's almost easter, and bunny-related items are everywhere at the moment, I thought it'd be a good time to dedicate a post to my little bun.
If you are a long time follower of this blog, you'll know who this little fluffy bundle is. I've had Peter for around 9 months now, and it's been so lovely to see him grow and develop a little personality. He's gained quite a few fans on my instagram!

He's a house rabbit, and lives between mine and my boyfriend's house, as we share him. Currently he's living with my boyfriend while I find a new place in my room for him after my little switch around.
I spent most of my childhood with a pet rabbit, so it just feels natural to have another one around nowadays.

Peter showing off his shaved ear, following his operation last week.
Rabbits can be such rewarding pets, and I think having him in the house with us has really helped our bond grow stronger.
Last week we finally got him neutered, and we've already noticed a difference in his behaviour. It got to the point where we were afraid of having him running around loose due to various occasions where excitement had got the better of him and he'd decide to mark his territory by spraying.. everywhere. Moving swiftly on! - Since his little op, this hasn't been an issue at all, so hopefully he'll be spending a lot more time playing with us now!

The thing I love the most about having a pet is noticing their little unique behaviours and things that just make you think 'aw, you silly thing!' One of his favourite past-times is sitting on this little wooden lodge's roof (which is sloped..) I've caught him falling asleep and rolling off the edge numerous times, but he never learns, bless him.

Getting a companion for Peter is an idea that quite often pops up, but unfortunately for the moment, neither of us have the time, money or room to accommodate another rabbit. With any luck, when Ben & I do get our own place, another bunny might be an option.
For the time being, we just make sure Peter has plenty of cuddles and toys to keep him entertained! He also seems to have a weird little bond with Ben's cat, Fudge. They'll often sniff at each other's noses through the cage bars.

If you'd like to see more of this little guy, make sure you're following me on instagram @amyalaska - there's an abundance of bunny pictures there!

Thanks for reading, I really hope you enjoyed this post!  I'd love to hear what you think down below! :) Have you ever had a pet rabbit before?

  1. I had a wonderful grey and white Dutch dwarf for 10 years!! "Willow" came to the veterinary clinic where I work as a tiny stray that was the victim of a cat bite...he had over half a dozen surgeries in his first few months of life, because his little face kept abscessing; and finally ended up losing part of his upper lip, which gave him a permanent "Elvis"-style sneer!! I learned to hypnotize him to make all his medical treatments a somewhat less stressful ordeal; and I used to amuse guests to no end with our "dead bunny' trick; he would lie, unmoving, on his back in the middle of our livingroom floor...until I woke him up!! Enjoy your "Peter," dear Amy...he's a cutie!!

    1. Oh bless him! :( He must have looked so cute with that lip though! I've heard bunnies are easy to put into a 'trance'.. I think Peter may have sunk into one in the past when lying upside down on my lap!
I've had a black and white dutch in the past.. never known another rabbit like him. He was the friendliest bunny I've ever seen!
Thank you so much for your comment, it's lovely to hear stories from other bunny owners! :) xx

  4. Aww this is the most cutest post ever!! I would love a bunny they are so cute and fluffy and seem great fun to have as a pet :) Its nice to know that he gets on well with the cat as cats can be pretty territorial especially my cat as we recently get a puppy and my cat can be very aloof with him :S would be nice if they got on but I don;t think that will happen anytime soon :'( xxx

    1. Awwwh bless, cats can be a bit funny sometimes! Ben's cat lives with a huge dog, and has done for quite a while. I'm not sure if there were any problems in the beginning or not, but for the most part they just ignore each other. I hope they settle down a little!
Rabbits are great pets! Maybe not as interactive as dogs and cats, and they aren't free to run around all of the time, but they definitely show their affection when they're around you :) xx

  5. Peter is sooo cute Amy :)
I would love to have a house rabbit but because I have a cat I can't help but think that it would be a rather poor move on my part. I'll be waiting until I move out to decide as I'm so torn between a house bunny or two kittens for the future.

    1. Thank you!! Aw what a shame, I've always wanted a cat though! :) That would be such a tough decision, both pets have so many positives! I know that some places that don't allow cats do allow rabbits, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for when I move out! x
