Clinique Super City Block Face Protector SPF 40

Clinique Super City Block Face Protector SPF 40 - £17.00
Something a little different today, and it may seem a little out of place, judging by the current weather here in the UK(!) ..but yes, today I am reviewing sun protection.
After having recently becoming somewhat addicted to chemical exfoliation (within reason), I realised that I really needed to up the levels of SPF I put on my face daily, despite the lack of sunshine. Moisturisers and foundations with added SPFs are always a bonus, but ideally, I needed something stronger.
Then along came Clinique Super City Block!

I'd heard a whole tonne of good things about this product during the summer last year, but hadn't really considered purchasing it for myself, and I'm not sure why. I rarely spend any time in the sun, and never really sunbathe, so it didn't really seem like a necessity. During my holiday last year, I just put up with normal drugstore sunscreens. They worked, as I didn't get burnt, but my makeup was often a mess, and didn't stay intact very well. (..Not to mention the oil, ohhh the oil!) I really wish I'd got this beforehand!

The oil-free formula is available in two versions - Sheer City Block (SPF 25), and Super City Block (SPF 40).
They both retail at £17.00, and are available in Debenhams, selected Boots stores (and online), and at any Clinique counter. I had originally planned to purchase mine from Boots, to get my advantage card points, but as I was unsure of which strength to go for, I decided to go to my local Clinique counter in Debenhams, and have a chat with the assistant.  She recommended I go for the Super version, due to my pale skin and regular exfoliation. I was a little concerned that it would be too heavy for daily use, but she assured me that it would be light and non-oily. And she was right. Honestly? I think I'm in love. This is my absolute dream sunscreen.

And the packaging? It's beautiful. A very handy size too! Easy to slip into your bag during the summer months to reapply throughout the day.

As you can see, although the product initially looks tinted, once applied, the colour disappears completely. I am super pale, and I have no problems whatsoever regarding the colour of this product. It's nice to have finally found a high SPF product which doesn't have that white cast, or turn my face into an oily mess!
My makeup applies perfectly over the top, and dare I say, even seems to be lasting longer on my face? I have had no issues regarding breakouts whilst using this product, so don't be scared away if breakouts are a concern.

One of the promises I made to myself this year was to keep better care of my skin, and upping the daily SPF seems like a great place to start. Not only will it help protect from signs of aging, but also help to reduce redness left over from previous breakouts.

Overall, a really fantastic product, which honestly, I couldn't recommend enough! I'm ever so pleased with this, and can't wait for summer to come along now, without fears of damaging my skin.

Thanks for reading, and I'd really love to hear what you think down below! :)
P.S I finally got around to getting a DSLR again, so long gone are the blurry, grainy pictures - at last!

  1. Oh my, this product is just perfect! I've been trying to find something like this since the sun here in the Philippines isn't quite friendly during noon .-. but its Clinique and the price... is it really that worth the money?

    1. I'd say yes! I'd much rather spend a bit on something that isn't going to ruin my make up, or make me super oily, so yes, it's worth it in my opinion :) I've tried a fair few facial sunscreens and this one beats them all! x

  7. Oh my gosh, I love this! I'm obsessed with Clinique and I always like to layer on the sunscreen. The sun's harmful rays can get through clouds, so I wear my sunscreen rain or shine. I just checked and this is available on Sephora - I need to get me some!
